2011 was a glorious year! I tackled 20 conventions and created so many new pieces of art. I also met so many kind and wonderful people. I couldn’t have asked for a better year. 2012 is looking to be just as exciting!
I’ve made some updates to my conventions page with a new list that will constantly be changing. I’ve also been starting to do panels at conventions and I’ll be sure to note which conventions and I’ll have a panel at.
I also added two new shirts to the webstore and might be adding another new shirt here soon.
Thank you so much for the support! I’ll be off to EVERCON this weekend!

Camera girl started off as a small sketch I made at Art Night. I was listening to one of my favorite Bands, Love of Everything, and one of their songs, “too much happy wet hair”, inspired this piece. I even wrote a small poem to go with it: More >

I had so much fun with this one. This new piece is called “Giraffe Boat” and is dedicated to my friend, Noel, who gave me all these cool bracelets.
One of the bracelets had a boat, and the other had a giraffe, and it just so happened that I noticed them both when the giraffe was riding the boat… Its kinda silly but AWESOME!!! I like to make the giraffe go for boat rides around my wrist. More >

I had very different plans for the Rainbear but I doodled out a sketch and thought I’d give it a go.
I may change the design of the character later but for now this piece is complete.
I originally sketched this piece at an Art Night gathering in Madison:

Its almost time!!! I’ll be displaying my artwork at Wizard World Chicago August 11-14! Wizard World is my favorite con of the year! Come see my new artwork and my new book! Thats right! I’ve put together my very own art book packed full of illustrations, inspirations, sketches and stories. The book is only available at conventions, but will be added to my site in the next month or two.
My booth number is 3040 or CLICK HERE TO SEE MAP!
If you haven’t seen me at a convention before but have always wondered what my booth is like, here is a video of my booth from Anime Iowa! My display was a little different than before as I had 2 table in a corner booth, usually I’m just used to packing it all onto one table.

I wrote a poem called “Curvy Compass” and I’ve been fighting with my sketchbook on how to illustrate it. Here is the poem:
“You run,
But I don’t follow.
I simply walk in the other direction.
You need your time, and I need my time,
We’re just indecisive of all our selections.
And don’t you know that no matter what,
I will always be happy?
I don’t care,
Because I never get worried.
You can run, you can run, you can run,
Just keep on running…
…Away from me.I’m a monster now,
I have a drooling mouth.
I clutch a curvy compass in my claws.
But you run just the same,
I see you fading away.
Yet a smile still slowly crawls across my fuzzy face. More >

Con season has been keeping me busy but fortunately I’ve managed to sneak in some time on a new piece. “Graffiti” is the name of this one and it started off as a doodle in my sketchbook. I was chilling in coffee shop and was thinking about how much I missed painting and how all my paints and spray cans are still boxed up. I really don’t have the space to unpack, plus I’m still planning on finding an apartment eventually… haha so the thought of unpacking seems silly.
My goal in this piece was to try and mimic the same spray-painted feel on the yellow canvas as how I would with a real canvas. It was a fun experiment and I’m happy with the results.
I’m totally psyched for the upcoming conventions I have planned. Anime Iowa and Wizard World Chicago are the next two on my list and I’m wiggling with excitement to meet new people and display my work.

I look forward to every Thursday because that is Art Night! Nothing beats getting together with art friends and doodling away. Our group sometimes has themes that we draw and its so cool to see what everyone comes up with. Our last theme was “DEMONS”, very loose and open ended to anything demon-like. We also set a timer to 30 minutes, so you don’t have a lot of time to think and plan things out. I sketched out the design (on the right) and liked it so much I decided to color it up.
I played with the image a lot longer than most as I couldn’t decide on certain color schemes. I also had a blast playing with scatter brushes and even busted out my wacom tablet to do some subtle brush work. This is all vector and I used Adobe Illustrator CS5. I also wrote a short little poem to go with it:
You gotta trust me! They just CAN’T escape!!
I captured some demons on an old cassette tape.
Amorphous to some, but evil they’ll be.
Don’t you dare play either side A or side B.
I had a blast creating this illustration and I hope you enjoy it! Below is the final version and be sure to check it out on DeviantArt!

Sometimes I love to just camp out with my sketch book and crank up some delicious tunes and see what happens. I doodled this sketch in Barriques, a cafe in Fitchburg Wisconsin. I like to use my favorite mechanical pencil with .5mm red lead though the red lead is getting harder and harder to find these days. As you can see the sketch is fairly crude but I gave it my “checkmark” of approval because I’ll clean it all up digitally anyway.
I’m not sure if you can tell from the sketch but I wanted the MP3 device to be modeled after my Zune. Its my baby and I love it to death. Plus its the method I listen to the majority of my music with. I snapped a reference pic of my Zune and then vectored it out:
I then drew out the big guy that pops up from the display and hits the play button. I used a lot of subtle gradients to achieve the ghost-like look. More >
